Urban Renewal in India – Theory, Initiatives and Spatial Planning Strategies

This book aims to provide all the stakeholders engaged in the process of urban renewal the required technical knowledge, including theory, initiatives, spatial planning strategies, tools, techniques, and innovative approaches for the mobilization of land and fiscal resources and the creation of institutional mechanism for the urban renewal. It is set in the context that 1,800 cities and towns in India are more than 100 years old and by 2050 more than 50% of the population is going to live in them.

The author believes the first principle in urban renewal is that it should be humane and ensure social justice. It should also be a participative process, physically feasible and economically sustainable.

The book is mostly updates about what has happened in the sector and doesn’t seem enough, as promised in the title, about fresh perspectives and tools.
