S & P released its 20th Sustainability Yearbook 2024 a few weeks ago. It considered over 9,400 companies in the 2023 Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA). Two Indian companies – Hindustan Zinc and Hindalco found themselves in the top 1% of the CSA Score while a few found mention in the top five and top 10 ratings.
The Sustainability Yearbook aims to distinguish those companies within their industries that have each demonstrated strengths in corporate sustainability. Yearbook members and distinction levels are selected based on their 2023 Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) Score, which is the S&P Global ESG Score without the inclusion of any modelling approaches. The report notes that the selection methodology reflects exclusion screening criteria.
The CSA delivers interesting insight into corporate sustainability practices, drawing on decades of engagement with thousands of companies annually. It goes far deeper than simply determining how transparent companies are. They say they uncover how well companies manage their ESG risks and opportunities they face.
S&P Global ESG Scores provide insight into companies’ ESG performance. S&P claims its ‘accurate’ assessments are not swayed by readily available data, while also playing a leading role in shaping the sustainability landscape by introducing new topics and advocating for improved standards and disclosure over time.
