Allbirds M0.0NSHOT: The World’s First Net Zero Carbon Shoe

Allbirds, the innovative footwear company, unveiled the M0.0NSHOT shoe, the world’s first net zero carbon shoe. The shoe was released at the Global Fashion Summit in Copenhagen, Denmark, the leading international sustainability forum for fashion.

The shoe is made from a variety of sustainable materials, including ZQ merino wool, Sweet Foam sugarcane EVA, and a bio-based lining. The shoe is also carbon neutral, meaning that the emissions associated with its production have been offset.

The M0.0NSHOT incorporates various sustainable design elements to achieve its net zero carbon status. One notable feature is the use of regenerative wool, which is part of their comprehensive approach.

In addition, the shoe boasts a carbon-negative SuperLight Foam midsole derived from sugarcane, with 70% bio-based content, setting it apart from industry foams that primarily consist of synthetic materials.

To further reduce its carbon footprint, the M0.0NSHOT incorporates eyelets made from carbon-negative bioplastic. These eyelets are created through a process in which micro-organisms convert methane (the same greenhouse gas emitted by sheep burps) into a polymer that can be moulded like traditional plastics, but without the corresponding carbon emissions.

Allbirds also prioritizes carbon-conscious packaging with the M0.0NSHOT.

The shoe’s packaging is designed to be the most carbon-efficient the company has ever used, reducing space and weight required for transportation.

It is made from sugarcane-derived Green PE, which is carbon-negative.

Lastly, Allbirds emphasizes carbon-conscious transportation methods. They utilize biofuel-powered ocean shipping and electric trucking for transportation from port to warehouse, further minimizing their carbon impact.

Through these innovative design choices and sustainable practices, Allbirds has achieved a significant milestone in creating a shoe that leaves no net carbon footprint, marking a new era in environmentally conscious footwear.
