3 Indian Airports Are Carbon Neutral

Of the 288 airports that joined the global carbon accreditation program and registered a collective CO2 reduction of over 320,000 tons or 4.9% in 2018, 61 have been declared carbon neutral. Of these three are in India – Indira Gandhi International Airport Delhi, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport Mumbai and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport Hyderabad. These results were published in the 2020 annual results by Airport Carbon Accreditation.

ACI World director general Angela Gittens said, “It has been a decade since the launch of the program the level of ambition for carbon management is growing.”

The Airports Council International (ACI), a non-profit organization representing the world`s airports has announced that four AAI airports – Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata; Biju Patnaik International Airport, Bhubaneswar; Lal Bhadaur Shastri International Airport, Varanasi and Trivandrum International Airport have met all the necessary requirements to upgrade to Level 2: “REDUCTION” by constituting Carbon Management Plan and reducing the carbon emissions at airports as per the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) Program.
